Ergh. I flipped through the newest issue of Knitter's while in the reading room of the house, and wondered (yet again) why I bought a 5 year subscription a few years back. Oh yeah, it was that red tote they offered for free. And the red dye rubbed off on some white yarn I had in it. And ruined that knitting project.
Well, this issue has a number of ruined knitting projects. Let's take, for example, Glistening Grapes on p. 64. Nice idea, until you look more closely at the photo. You MUST wear a camisole underneath the shell, because that very thin sparkly yarn that creates the horizontal stripes? Well, it's pretty much see-through. I'm not crazy about letting that much of my main undergarment show through.
The Fractured Tulip on p. 48 is one of the few designs that a plush-sized woman like me will find sized appropriately in this issue. However, it reminds me of the machine-knitting gone bad examples I saw at Stitches a few years ago. This look might work for some folks, but I'm just not finding it attractive.
The men's vest and sweater are not bad designs in themselves, but most of the men I know wouldn't wear anything quite that patterned.
What did I like? Sand Bars. Which has a finished bust of 49" (and with wearing ease of 3-4 inches, the largest bust measurement the wearer can have is between 45-46"). Not large enough, Knitter's Design Team. While I can do the math, and will for a project that's worth it, many plush-sized knitters won't. It's not as if this has complicated shaping.
Then there's Garden Rows, which is a nice pattern, but again stops at a 49.75" finished measurement.
And that's it. Not much in the technical articles, either. Boy, the summer issue had better be good.

Hello! I've been lurking here for a while...love your knitting! Just wanted to say...most magazines will send you a refund for unsent issues (based on price per copy) if you cancel a subscription. Why continue receiving it if you don't like it...wouldn't you rather have the money?

I haven't seen that one - but have been disappointed with the last few issues when I leafed through them.
I saw the Spring Vogue - which seems really thin- and thought URGHHH who would wear this stuff.

Too Funny. I had a similar-themed post in mind. When I got my Knitter's this week, I actually said, "WTF" (but all the words out loud). Because really. W.T.F. Who knits that stuff? Oh, where has the partial-tube-top, partial-capelet outfit been all my life? And yeah, the only "sane" looking pieces - too small. I haven't renewed my subscription, but somehow it keeps coming. I certainly won't continue to pay for it.

follow up: Mom2Schnauzers had a great point. I contacted Knitters and asked to cancel my subscription and get my $ back. I also contacted Interweave the same day -- I get SpinOff, which I love, but do I really need another hobby?? Interweave wrote back the next day and I should get a check anytime now. I've heard NADA from the Knitter's folks! NADA!
