- Rain -- we finally got some rain last night. Not much, but some. And the temperature is now 69F. It'll climb from there, but some blessed relief is wonderful.
- Fresh cantaloupe. I LOVE cantaloupe, preferably locally grown. I eat it with some salt on top, to bring out the sweetness. Just like gramma and mama. Probably a southern thing.
- Fresh cucumbers. Joel and his work colleagues have a great trade going on. He shares tomatoes and they share cucumbers and zuccini. A fresh, locally grown cucumber is just wonderful. Fabulous. They remind me of very early summer mornings, while it's cool, wet and you can smell the very earth, springing with life before the heat hits it hard, taking your breath away. The cucumbers seem to retain some measure of coolness, even in the heat. I love them by themselves, with a little salt, or mixed in with sour cream.

MMM, we always ate cantaloupe that way, too. And we've been in love with cukes mixed with rice wine vinegar & brown sugar...to taste. Just don't leave them too long or they get over-watery. YUM!
I'm glad about the rain, too!

I eat my melon with salt too! I like my cucumbers and sour cream with some fresh dill.

We eat watermelon with salt, but I've never tried any other type of melon. I'll have to try that next time.
