Whew. What a weekend. And what a week before that.
First of all, finished up some paperwork. I've been chairing a librarian search committee, and the letter to the Dean was finalized this week as well as the Affirmative Action charts. My first time doing both. I learned quite a bit and also worked hard to write a letter by committee. Tough. Writing the letter is tough enough, but writing it by consensus is tougher. Very tough for my personality, but I worked hard to achieve what was best for us all and not do it "my way." Thankfully these are the last steps in the process. Unless offers aren't accepted-- we're back to the beginning if the search is unsuccessful. But I think it will be.
Second, I worked at the yarn store Saturday. We were very, very busy. I was one tired puppy by the time we closed at 5pm.
Third, a very music-filled weekend. Our church choirmaster/organist sang "Thus Saith The Lord" followed by "And Who Shall Abide" from Handel's Messiah for yesterday's service. He asked me to accompany on Tuesday. I practiced from the Schirmer edition and found out on Wednesday that he preferred the Novello Watkins/Shaw edition. Got to church and he had the UPDATED Watkins/Shaw that I didn't have. So got a photocopy of the recit/aria to hold me over until Thursday when I bought the new edition at a local music store. Needless to say, I practiced when I could (more on that) this week. It came off yesterday -- wasn't the best, but I didn't have another 3-5 days to really get it to where I wanted. But it was a challenge, and I LOVE a challenge. This also will spur me to practice more and get in better shape -- I do like to be able to pull off requests quickly.
Speaking of requests, I also played for about 2.5 hours Friday night at a sing-along. I really enjoy playing for folks. All Christmas music. An organist friend played some, but knowing that this time of year he doesn't get to sing Christmas music, only play, I played most of the time and told him that was my gift to him. Ah, but by the time I got home, I was too tired to focus on practicing. I practiced Saturday evening/night after working at the yarn store. Lots of one hand at a time, then both hands slo-mo, increasing tempos until up to tempo. Exciting? No. Effective? Yes, especially when one is really, really tired. It worked.
Yesterday afternoon was our annual "Gifts of Grace" event at church. I sang two pieces.
And believe it or not, when I came home, I practiced some more -- a couple of friends are coming over Friday night for dinner and a sing, and I wanted to have a couple of surprises ready for them!
Now, can I go back to bed???

Wow! You were one busy girl. I so bow in the face of your enery. Sure, go back to bed!
