Truly. I usually joke when I say "never a dull moment." But this week I've wished for dull moments.
- My young friend with cystic fibrosis has been in the hospital. She's been quite ill and hasn't wanted to eat. Visited her Monday evening and she didn't look so good.
- Tuesday afternoon I found out a friend died. He was my age, and I saw him each year at my professional conference. We both played in the Big Band. I'm still in shock.
- Thursday morning I found out that the "Big Band Dad" had a heart attack on Wednesday. The "Big Band Dad" and his music librarian son also play in the Big Band.
- This afternoon I left work early to go to the doc, and on my way back I stopped at the hospital to visit my young friend. The hospital doesn't allow cell phone use when in patient rooms. Around 7pm I check my phone and my husband has tried to call FOUR times. He was in a car wreck during rush hour.
Joel is fine but the car is not. We can't afford a new car now, or even a "pre-owned" one. The tow truck driver took Joel home. Joel got rear-ended on 635 (beware KC commuters, because no one's going to stop to see if you're all right. If you're a KC commuter and you don't have a cell phone, get one. Just don't talk on it while you're driving, ok?).
Actually Joel's back hurts, but not bad enough to send him to the emergency room. Yet.
Sigh.

Oh, Laura, I am so sorry. And we were relieved that it was Friday and you would be getting a break.
Are you sure the car is totalled? They do some amazing stuff with frame and body work these days.

No I'm not sure. Here's the deal, though. I don't know what the repair costs will be -- if it's more than the car is worth, it's entirely possible that it'll be declared totaled. We'll see.
