One of those mornings

It's a gorgeous morning.  Cool, sunny, a little wind.  Got up early and got ready for work.  Joel treated me (or rather my truck) to an oil change Saturday, so I felt good about the run in.  Until...

I got out to the truck.  A small stream of oil was snaking its way from underneath Old Blue to the garage drain.  I didn't see that yesterday morning when I went to church.  Hmmm.  I went back inside to look for my receipt from the oil change.  No luck.  Joel commented on the quick trip and I told him my next stop would be Goodyear.  Joel followed me, but I got there just fine.

The guys checked out Blue and the verdict?  Stripped threads on the oil plug.  I paid $4.34 for a replacement.  The labor and the oil refill was covered by their warantee. 

While waiting, I got engrossed in Morville's Ambient Findability and decided to spend the rest of the day at home reading and taking notes on it.  And drinking mint iced tea.  It's one of those mornings that has turned out all right.

cell phone morning

We both heard noises in the night, but when we got up (independent of each other) to investigate, all was fine.

This morning, Joel walked around the house early to check things out.  He found a Razr cell phone in our back yard, close to the house.  It was missing its battery.  I took it and put it on the dining room table.  About 15 minutes afterwards, while Joel was making another set of rounds, our across the dead-end street neighbor came over.  It was her phone.  I don't think I want to know how it got in our yard.  But all is fine on the house.

Then in church, during the New Testament lesson, a cell phone rang near the front of the congregation.  The owner quicky muted the offending device.  About 4 verses from the end of that lesson, a cell phone rang right behind me.  The owner of the cell phone did a quick mute as well and then left the nave to check on something.

Thankfully I had turned mine to vibrate and put it deep down in my purse, just in case.  No other cell phones interrupted the rest of the service.

Simple for whom?

The day before the hubster's car got totaled, I ordered a 1Gb flash drive and a Network Attached Storage device (NAS).  The NAS is a SimpleTech SimpleShare device.  I tried to cancel the order on Saturday (post-wreck) and it had already shipped.  So when it arrived Tuesday, I talked with the JoelMan and he said I could keep it.

I tried to set it up last night.  After all, it's supposed to be simple to set up, and my tech guru Mosker said that it was pretty simple.  Sigh.  Not so for me.  I followed instructions, I used the CD with QuickSetup and I still can't "get there from here."

I won't tell you what my IQ has tested at, or how many grad degrees I have, but I'm feeling pretty stupid right now.  I'm going to have to whine to my friend Mosker and probably bribe her with some artichoke dip and Mike's to help me, the dunce, out.

And you know what will happen?  It'll work perfectly for her.  She'll do exactly what I did, but it'll work for her. 

My only consolation is that knitting socks is simple for me, but not for her.  Ha!

and the saga continues...

Last night, with the assistance of Toyota financing, we bought a "pre-owned" Toyota Corolla.  May it serve us well, keep us safe, and get great gas mileage.

We got home from the dealership after 10:30pm.  That many folks were buying cars last night.  The dealership officially closed at 8pm.

ps-why substitute "pre-owned" for used?  More letters and more syllables.
